Magickal names.

What is it?
These is a name that you create, or in some cases (such as in a Coven) are given.

When do you use it?
In a Coven you only use your magickal name there. However, amongst solitary witches there is some dispute as to whether you can share your magickal name or if it's private and only to use in your spells and rituals.

How do I make one?
There's two ways I've learnt you can gain a magickal name.
1) Meditate until one comes to you, or...
2) Make one up yourself.

If you go for the latter, here's some things you may be interested in co-operating into your magickal name:

• Favourite animal
  
• Animal guide (if known)
  
• Favourite element
  
• Favourite colour
  
• Favourite month
  
• Favourite day of the week
  
• Favourite deity
  
• Your sun sign
  
• A name you've always liked or felt "drawn to"
  
• Dominant personality traits
  
• Favourite crystal, stone or gem

You may even decide that you want it influenced by a particular language or group of people that you've always loved, e.g. Greek, Roman, Egyptian. Is there a word in these languages that you like or can you translate one of the above into the language you prefer to make your magickal name?

Why create one?
Some people believe that is makes The Craft or Wicca, whichever you follow, closer to you. It is another way of personalising your beliefs.

Advice.
It may take you a while to think up one, so once you have found it make sure you're happy with it. Ideally you want to stick to it to save any confusion, however if you made it there is no reason you cannot adjust it over time

A magickal name is not compulsory, it is optional. If you do not like the idea you do not have to have one.
